An Inside Look Want to learn about the tools we use to shape granite for you? Read on to find out about our equipment and the processes involved in working with natural stone... |
Fork Lift Since natural stone is both incredibly hard and heavy, it requires some heavy-duty machinery to work with it. First and foremost, we need a way to move a great big slab inside our warehouse from its spot in the granite yard. Only the smallest pieces can be picked up and carried around, but we often start with slabs which are 10 feet long and which weigh as much as 800 pounds! For this reason, the forklift is an absolute must. |

Bridge Saw Since a slab is so large to begin with, we need to cut it down to a more manageable size before we can begin the detail work. This is where the bridge saw comes in. It's not perfectly accurate, but at this stage it doesn't need to be. It's quick and dirty and it gets the job done, cutting a slab into smaller rectangles.

CNC Machine CNC stands for "computer numerical control." This is where the detail work begins. This large machine, which resembles a tour bus more than a skill saw, does some amazing, accurate work. Behind its swinging doors is a fully programmable system that creates sink cutouts, archs, undermounts, bump-ins and bump-outs. It cuts extemely smooth edges and does the math to make sure the shapes are perfect to fit your needs. |
Edge Machine Now that your pieces are cut, the next step is to fabricate the edges. There are many different types of bevels, from a straight edge to a perfectly rounded edge to a combination of the two. For a complete list of the types of edges you can choose from, visit our edges page.

Splash Machine Serving essentially the same purpose as the edge machine, the splash machine polishes the edge of a piece of granite. But the splash machine is specifically used for four-inch splashes, providing a flat edge polish.

Truck Fleet Your natural stone has been cut, shaped, and polished. It looks perfect and beautiful, but there's still one thing left to do... install it! And in order to get it there, our truck fleet is ready to do the hauling. This becomes especially important for our commercial clients, who often place larger orders requiring an extensive amount of stone. |

With the benefit of computers and modern machinery, we can deliver our product faster and more affordably than was possible 20 years ago. Though most of the cutting and shaping is done by machines these days, we still maintain a hands-on approach in the level of care we give to each piece. We have to pay special attention to your needs, because every project is unique, requiring a specific type of stone in a specific shape and size to fit your kitchen, fireplace, wall or floor.
